Free form plaster balloons
7th grade students have finished their Mandala projects and are excited to begin work on creating their three-dimensional free form plaster balloons that they will add color to non-objectively with acrylic paint.
To start their sculpture project, students measure, mix, pour, and form their balloons with plaster of paris. Once the plaster has set and the forms are completely dried, students will lightly sand their free form pieces so they have a consistent, smooth surface. To finish their artwork students will use acrylic paint to coat their sculpture with color in a non-objective style.

Mandala Project
The 7th grade art students are busy creating Mandalas for their next project.
The word "Mandala" is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit. Loosely translated to mean "circle" a Mandala is far more than a simple shape. Mandalas have been found among the most ancient forms created by human beings and often exhibit radial balance, also known as radial design.
Radial balance is any type of balance based on a circle with its design extending from the center. The "circle with a center" pattern is the basic structure of creation that is reflected from the micro to the macro in the world. It is a pattern found in nature and is seen in biology, geology, chemistry, physics, and astronomy. A star, a wheel with spokes, a daisy, an orange, and a seashell are just a few examples of radial balance.
