Free Form Plaster Balloons
Before Winter Break began, 7th grade artists began work on creating their three-dimensional free form plaster balloons.
To start their sculpture project, students measure, mix, pour, and form their balloons with plaster of paris. Once the plaster has set and the forms are completely dried, students will lightly sand their free form pieces so they have a consistent, smooth surface. To finish their artwork students will use acrylic paint to add details to their sculpture with metallic color in a non-objective style. pointillism self-portrait
This December, the 2nd marking period 7th grade artists have been working very hard on their pointillism self-portrait projects. Using colored markers and only dots they have been creating portraits of themselves from their choice of a current or childhood photograph.
Through creating these masterpieces, students are developing their skill of drawing in proportion with the help of a grid, contour lines and stylized shapes. Additionally, the 7th grade artists are also concentrating on learning to create variation of value, blending colors to make their own unique hues, and focusing on creativity, consistency, and craftsmanship while they finish their artwork. |

Critical thinking project
7th grade artists began their marking period in art by creating their Critical Thinking Project. The assignment allowed students to rediscover an item that held sentimental value to them by creating 16 miniature drawings. For their first project the students had the choice of working in graphite pencil, colored pencil, crayons, washable markers, and permanent markers.
